New NeoGeo Game Collection

Neo-RAGEx emulator 21mb

Neo-RAGEx emulator 21mb

This was once the best NeoGeo emulator out there, though it's a bit outdated these days, it's great for people with low-end machines however. This one is for DOS and now for Win9x, and was coded by the same people who coded RAGE, a multi arcade emulator for DOS. There is now sound in the Win9x version and the DOS version seems to be discontinued. There is extensive joystick support along with multiple videomodes that look quite nice. It runs a majority of Neo Geo games at full speed on a P166.

The upgrade to NeoRAGEx is much smaller than the full version, so you don't have to download 1.5 megs all over again. You have to already have the full version installed to use the upgrade.

Don't forget to download the Neo Geo BIOS ROM as well, which Neo RAGE requires. The new Beta doesn't have any CRC checks to protect you from playing the latest games.

Burning Fight for NeoGeo 3.2mb

Burning Fight for NeoGeo 3.2mb

Burning Fight

Burning Fight is an arcade game created by SNK in 1991 for the Neo Geo MVS system. This game is a beat 'em up, very similar to Crime Fighters. Three years after its release in arcades and on the Neo Geo AES, it was released in the Neo Geo CD as the only other home version of this game.

The producer of this game is Eikichi Kawasaki, one of the SNK founders and the man behind various famous SNK games, like Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown series. It also was included in SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1, released for the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable in North America on May 1, 2008.

Gameplay

This game uses elements that are very similar to Konami's Crime Fighters: balanced character selection, objects and weapons found on the ground cause greater damage to opponents, and semi-interactive environments (players can damage objects like phone booths and street signs along the way.) To its credit, there is one element in the game that is slightly different from crime fighters The game contains some mini-stages, where you have to defeat some enemies in a short period of time in order to win prizes.

Cyber-Lip For NeoGeo 3mb

Cyber-Lip For NeoGeo 3mb

Cyber-Lip is a horizontally scrolling, side-view platformer shoot 'em up (this combination is sometimes referred to as "run and gun") arcade game released by SNK in 1990 for the SNK Neo-Geo MVS. The player(s) control(s) Rick and/or Brook, two human veteran soldiers, who are sent by an unspecified "federal government" into combat on a last-ditch attempt to save Earth from a malfunctioning military supercomputer in charge of all military androids. Gameplay consists of battling through large amounts of enemies, collecting power-ups and defeating several

It's hard to imagine a time when the Neo Geo wasn't all about fighting games. But before SNK caught the Fatal Fury/Art of Fighting/King of Fighters bug, their library spanned most of the popular genres of the early 90s. Cyber Lip was their tribute to side-scrolling run and guns like Contra, and feels like an obvious predecessor to Metal Slug.

The storyline is unabashedly stolen from The Terminator - it's the future, and humans are stupid enough to build a sentient super computer to protect their space colony from outside invaders. This computer is named Cyber Lip. Now, we're all familiar with how the Japanese will stick some random English words together without any regard to their meaning, but Cyber-Lip is literally a gigantic talking mouth. Except it's equipped with lasers and missiles and poor spelling, per usual SNK standards. In any case, as to be expected, Cyber Lip decides to go mad and unleash an army of cyborgs to crush and kill everything in site. They do a pretty good job, evidently, since you see the destroyed remains of the Statue of Liberty in the background of the first stage. As one or two commandos - named Brook and Rock - it's your Earthly duty to put a stop to the evil computer and blow a lot of things up along the way.

For the most part, this is all stuff we've seen before. The only difference between this or Contra or any other similar game is that you can stockpile weapons and switch between them at any time. Even if you get killed, you can just switch back to the flamethrower or bazooka or machine gun. There is limited ammo, so you need to be smart about conserving unless you want to get stuck with your dumpy little pea shooter default gun, but there are plenty of power-ups to be found, including Rolling Thunder-style reload rooms. You can also get little orbs that rotate around your guy and help protect against bullet. About the only problem is that you can't shoot diagonally.

Like many Neo Geo games, there's a gratuitous use of voiceovers, as if to brag "look how much space we've got on our cartridges!" The bad guys occasionally shout out vaguely coherent taunts like "you're doomed!", your guy while scream "I'm a goner!" when he's lost his last life, and an omniscent voice occasionally tells you to "look out below!" when crossing over precarious chasms. Unfortunately, the music quality is pretty bad, and just plays quietly in the background, hoping no one will notice how crappy it is. Similarly, the graphics are just kind of okay - even for an early Neo Geo game, it doesn't stand up to the likes of, say, Magician Lord. There are some impressive looking boss, including one that's a pretty obvious ripoff of the huge alien head from the original Contra. However, Contra: Shattered Soldier seemed to repay the favor years later by featuring a boss where you're hanging on a pipe and need to fire straight downward into the enemy's weakpoint - which is almost exactly like one in Cyber-Lip.

Cyber-Lip is a decent game, but there's little here that hasn't been done better in other games, especially Metal Slug. So, oddly enough, it's the game's story - or, rather, the ending - that sets it apart. After each level, you're given orders from the President (presumably American, since he speaks English even in the Japanese version.) When you finally reach the evil computer, he confesses that he is not "insain" but has rather been "evilly reprogrammed". You obey your orders and kill it anyway. On your trip back to Earth, your commander congratulates you on a job well done. But then he starts talking craziness about how "there are no more obstacles in our way" and "the earth is ours". Then his eyes glow red and the credits start to roll. It then hits you - you've just been a pawn. It's never spelled out directly, but the aliens had introduced a virus into the Cyber-Lip computer, causing it to attack humanity, and you've been manipulated into destroying it so the aliens can finish their invasion. Contra 3 ended up with your heroes landing in the middle of a crowded city, lauded as the savior of humanity. Cyber-Lip never gives you a "welcome home" parade - you just continue your trip through space, unaware of whatever kind of terrors you've inadvertantly brought onto the human race.

It's a little bit heavy for a game like this, I'd say.

Cyber-Lip was never ported to any system other than the Neo Geo, even though the SNES probably could've handled it. Although it's an early Neo Geo cart, both the home cartridge and Neo CD version still tends to fetch a bit more money than your average game from around that time. Still, we can always hope SNK wises up and either releases it for download on next gen consoles, or makes some kind of "Early Neo Geo Games" package. Maybe toss Magician Lord and Nam 1975 in there, and I'd be happy.

Double Dragon For Neo-Geo 9Mb

Double Dragon For Neo-Geo 9Mb

Double Dragon (ダブルドラゴン?) is a 1995 fighting game spinoff of the Double Dragon series developed and published by Technos Japan. It is based on the 1994 Double Dragon movie, which in turn was based on the original arcade game. It was originally released for the Neo Geo (in AES and MVS formats) and later released for the Neo Geo CD and PlayStation (the latter ported by Urban Plant). It was Technos Japan's last Double Dragon game before the company went out of business.

The game plays like a conventional fighting game of its time, that is battles are one-on-one and conducted on best two-out-of-three matches. One of the unique aspects of Double Dragon is the lack of specific punch and kick buttons like most fighting games. Instead, there are four attack buttons of varying strength and speed, which can perform punches or kicks depending on the character's position. The player's character and his opponent have a super move meter called the "charge meter", which is overlaid on the character's remaining health. The less health the character has, the quicker it will fill up. "Charge moves" are usually performed by executing the command of a regular special move and pressing two attack buttons simultaneously at the end instead of just one.

The characters and stages are inspired by the Double Dragon movie featured prominently in the game's intro. This includes the appearances of a submerged Hollywood, the Dragon Mobile vehicle, Billy and Jimmy's ability to transform themselves and the inclusion of Koga Shuko as the game's final boss. However, the game's characters are depicted in a more anime-like style and only five of the game's twelve fighters are actually featured in the movie; Burnov and Duke are from previous Double Dragon games and rest were created specifically for this game.

Eight Man For NeoGeo 2.8Mb

Eight Man For NeoGeo 2.8Mb

Test de Eight Man

Metal Slug - Super Vehicle-001 For NeoGeo 12Mb

Metal Slug - Super Vehicle-001 For NeoGeo 12Mb

The player has to constantly shoot at a continual stream of enemies in order to reach the end of a level. At the end of each level, the player must confront a boss who is often considerably larger than regular enemies and takes many shots to defeat. On the way through the level, the player finds weapons upgrades and "Metal Slug" tanks that can be used not only as weapons but also as added defense. The protagonists can perform melee attacks by using a knife and/or kicking. The player does not die for simply coming into contact with most enemies. Correspondingly, many of the enemy troops have melee attacks. Much of the game's scenery is destructible. Sometimes this reveals extra items or powerups, most of the time it simply results in collateral damage. During the course of a level, the player encounters POWs. If these are freed, the player can receive bonuses in the form of random items or weapons. The player receives a score bonus for freeing prisoners at the end of the level; at this point the game shows the name and rank of each POW freed. If the player dies before the end of the level, the tally of freed prisoners is deleted. There are a total of six levels, with themes ranging from forests, garrisoned cities, snowy mountain valleys, canyons, and military bases.
